10. Build a network that isn't all about bandwidth. 9. Show that Bill Nye, The Science Guy, and Harry Potter aren't the only ones to demonstrate wizardry and magic to school kids. 8. Have the UT School of Engineering named after you when the entire class of 2008 lists you as their inspiration on their applications. 7. Add "led a diverse team of entrepreneurial engineers" to your resume. Who cares if they were all younger than 15! 6. Wear an incredibly cool limited edition T-shirt. 5. Skip the office for several hours while you and your team "promote the industry." 4. Make your spouse wonder what you're up to when someone named Tracy from a local high school calls to "confirm your appointment". 3. Get in good with your boss when she discovers that HER boss is on the team YOU are leading. 2. Get a chance to talk to schoolchildren about what engineers do - and try to explain that you don't drive a train. 1.Threaten your children that if they don't behave, you will come to their school and talk to their friends about what you do all day. |
