I used a board that was about 8'x6"x2" and a 4x4 board. The wide board was the lever and the square board was the fulcrum. With the fulcrum in the middle, one child was able to lift another child, but not two children. We moved the fulcrum and one child was able to lift two children, but not three children. So we moved the fulcrum again and the one child was able to lift three children. I talked about having a mechanical advantage and using a tool to do a job. We talked about how the lever was the tool to help the child do his "job," and that's why their parents sometimes use wrenches and other tools to do jobs at home |
