Force in one direction creates an equal force in the opposite direction. I stood on a skateboard (or skates) and threw a ball to the teacher to demonstrate this law. Obviously, the heavier the ball the better. The basketball I used was not quite heavy enough, so I didn't move much -- even on a smooth surface.
